Santander X Global Challenge | Innovation in Healthcare
Banco Santander and the Oxentia Foundation launched the Santander X Global Challenge | Innovation in Healthcare. A global challenge seeking to find companies looking to innovate in the field of healthcare services, patient care, cost reduction and increased efficiency of healthcare systems.
The evaluation and selection of finalists and winners for this global challenge was expertly supported by Hitachi, one of the world's leading technology companies.
Awards Ceremony
On November 27, the winners of the Santander X Global Challenge | Innovation in Healthcare were announced. This global challenge was launched by Banco Santander and the Oxentia Foundation, with support from Hitachi. More than 790 startups and scaleups from 11 countries participated.
After the ceremony, which took place at Centro de Iniciativas Empresariales, Santander, Cantabria (Spain), the winners will receive a total of 120,000 euros in prizes and access to Santander X 100.

There are three main areas of the challenge:
Technology and automation
Innovations that support the effectiveness and advances of health professionals. For example, operational function systems that save costs, resources and reduce medical errors. Development of medical devices, wearables, and the use of robotics and VR for medical training and remote surgical procedures.
Operational efficiency
Innovative solutions that track and analyse the healthcare industry and help governments, companies and other stakeholders make strategic and operational decisions. We are looking for solutions that improve hospital operations, electronic record management systems for more efficient documentation and management, and data analysis to optimise resource allocation and personnel planning.
Patient care
Solutions focused on patient-centred care to offer a comfortable and efficient experience from start to finish. For example, solutions that allow better patient care from home diagnosis and monitoring, to virtual appointments, autonomous medication dispensary, simplified treatment plans and personalised medicine.
Prizes
The six winning startups and scaleups of the Santander X Global Challenge | Innovation in Healthcare will receive the following cash prizes and benefits:
Cash prize
€ 120,000 prize pot for the winners
3 startups: € 10,000 each
3 scaleups: € 30,000 each
Santander X 100
Membership of Santander X 100, Santander’s exclusive community for entrepreneurs which offers the most prominent startups and scaleups networking and access to the resources they need to grow. .
Connection with Fintech Station
The winning startups and scaleups will be given access to Banco Santander’s open innovation team to explore possible collaboration opportunities.

Promotion on Banco Santander’s official social media channels.

Startup category
Legally incorporated in one of the 11 participating countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Portugal, Poland, Spain, the UK, Uruguay, and the USA)
In addition, businesses must also meet one or more of the following criteria:
- An annual revenue which does not exceed $300,000
- Capital raised of between $100,000 and $1 million
- Between 2 to 25 full-time employees
Scaleup category
Legally incorporated for at least two years in one of the 11 participating countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Portugal, Poland, Spain, the UK, Uruguay, and the USA)
In addition, businesses must also meet one or more of the following criteria:
- An annual revenue of over $300,000
- More than $1 million capital raised
- Over 25 full-time employees
